Hazmat Situation Shuts Down Streets in San Mateo

An old refrigerator caused a scare Sunday morning in San Mateo. A family living in an apartment called the fire department saying there was a strong smell of ammonia in their home.

The San Mateo Police Department shut down South B Street between 14th and 16th Avenue Sunday morning after a leaking refrigerator prompted a hazmat investigation.

The incident was reported at an apartment complex on the 1400 block of South B Street at 6:04 a.m. and all clear was given at around 10 a.m. 

No injuries were reported.
