Heavy Rain, Lightning, Storm, Hail Today

A powerful area of low pressure will slam the Coast early Sunday morning, bringing heavy rain, frequent lightning strikes and the possibility of hail. Areas of downed trees, power outages, mudslides and airport delays are all likely Sunday. Travel with caution!

The day before Christmas Eve is going to be a wet one, and in some places, Bay Area residents may even be pelted by hail and lightning as they make their last-minute trips to the mall.

Residents were warned to expect those weather elements along with strong winds early Sunday morning, and make sure to check driving and air travel conditions before setting out.

About one to two inches of rain is possible with three or more inches in some areas in the North Bay mountains. Along with the threat for ponding on the roads, frequent lightning strikes, power outages and mudslides are also likely.

Daytime highs will remain cool with iInland locations in the mid to upper 50s, bayside and coastal locations should also be in the lower 50s.

Then, after all that wet and wind, Santa should be able to sweep by the skies in peace.

The next Bay Area storm should push late into Christmas day, bringing the chance of showers back into the forecast.  But this system should not be as strong as the weekend's storms.
