A lot of people are enjoying this warm weather. But so are the snakes, particularly rattlers. A Marin hiker had a dangerous run-in with one over the weekend and now snake sightings and bitings are on the rise. NBC Bay Area’s Jodi Hernandez talks to a doctor who treated the man.
An elderly hiker on Sunday was bit by a rattlesnake on Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, according to the California Highway Patrol – Golden Gate Division Air Operations.
The 79-year-old hiker suffered "multiple bites," according to the CHP.
A CHP helicopter crew responded to the scene about 2:15 p.m. and transported the victim to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The hiker was in stable condition late Sunday night, the CHP said.
The Marin County Fire Department assisted with the rescue on the ground, the CHP said.
CHP officials took to Facebook to remind hikers to keep their eyes out for snakes now that temperatures are warming up.
