Huge Oak Topples in Orinda, Misses Car, Snags Utility Line

An ancient oak fell in Orinda Monday morning, narrowly missing a car parked in a driveway and stretching a utility cable almost to the ground.

On Monday afternoon, the tree was balanced precariously on a power line while PG&E workers and tree removal specialists worked to remove it.

PG&E cut power to the hilly neighborhood so the arborists could work. They were facing a difficult job – removing the heavy branches without smashing the car underneath or bringing down the utility cable altogether.
