Humpback Whale Washes Ashore Near Watsonville

A humpback whale washed ashore near Watsonville on Sunset State Beach Thursday night.

Researchers are now trying to figure out what killed the young humpback. At first glance, it doesn’t appear sharks were responsible.

Once researchers examine the whale, it will be either pulled out to sea or buried.

Rangers are asking people to stay away because the beach is home to very sensitive birds.
