Man Shot at Pittsburg BART Station

A man was found with a life-threatening gunshot wound

NBC Bay Area’s Jean Elle spoke with a witness of a shooting at the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station Thursday. A man was shot in his car, then taken to John Muir Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

BART police are investigating a shooting at the Pittsburg BART station parking lot, and Friday  morning, evidence technicians were out on the scene gathering clues as to what happened.

A witness said he was in his car waiting for his windows to defrost around 6:45 p.m. Thursday when he saw a black car pull up to a white car.

He said he heard talking and then what sounded like a cap gun.

"I heard pop, pop, pop and then the white car pulled out fast," he said.

The car didn't get far. The driver was shot and slammed his car into several parked cars. The witness said he saw a passenger get out and run and the black car took off.

Police say the driver was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. BART is reviewing surveillance tape to see if the shooting and the suspect vehicle was caught on tape. On Friday, a BART spokesman said the victim had undergone surgery, though his exact condition wasn't known.
