Naval Base “Returns” to Alameda

City plans to fill vacant site with homes and commercial buildings

Navy has officially handed over land for vacant naval base to the City of Alameda. Joe Rosato Jr. reports.

For nearly two decades the Alameda naval base has sat like a military ghost town.

The vacant area now appears to be on the move, with plans to fill the site with new homes and commercial buildings.

The Navy on Monday officially handed over the land back to the City of Alameda to get the ball rolling on the projects.
