Thousands Without Power Due to Bay Area Storm

PG&E crews were kept busy by a powerful storm that caused many outages reported in the Bay Area. Cheryl Hurd reports.

PG&E reported tens of thousands of power outages in the Bay Area due to inclement weather Thursday morning.

In San Francisco, at its peak, more than 100,000 customers are without power due to a blown substation at the downtown Civic Center location. By about 6:45 p.m., the number had been reduced to about 4,200.

Strong winds are bringing down trees, making things downright dangerous for drivers in some cases. Today in the Bay’s Bob Redell reports from Pinol where a downed tree ended up being a close call for one truck driver.

Here are the power outage totals for the Bay Area (as of about 10:45 p.m.):

San Francisco: 630

East Bay: 1,990

North Bay: 2,200

South Bay: 1,330

Peninsula: 9,000

Bay Area Total: 15,170
