Multiple law enforcement agencies are working together to stop a rash of freeway shootings that have terrorized drivers in the East Bay.
Since November, police said there have been 17 freeway shootings in the East Bay, with 11 of the incidents along Interstate 80. The latest shooting occurred on Sunday and involved a taxi cab.
Richmond police along with 25 other agencies are working together to get to the root of the problem. Police said they are looking for individuals known to them from previous crimes.
Members of a newly formed task force conducted searches for suspects on Thursday night. The task force is comprised of 26 investigators from agencies in almost every Contra Costa County police department.
The California Highway Patrol and FBI are also involved in working to end the freeway shootings. In addition, a prosecutor in onboard to make sure the cases can move quickly through the system.
Members of the task force are cracking down on gang activity because police believe the shooting are gang related.
The freeway shootings have all occurred on Interstate 80, Interstate 580 and Highway 4.
