Nude “Truth is Beauty” Statue in San Leandro Lights Up

A 55-foot nude statue in San Leandro was lit up on Tuesday night. It’s called “Truth is Beauty” and has come under controversy because it’s near a BART station. Some riders say the nude statue should come down, but the artist says it’s meant to represent self-acceptance and female empowerment and inspired people to end assault and violence. “I don’t know if this has ever happened in the whole world, where a city and business community embrace a very difficult message. I’m stunned,” artist Marco Cochrane said. At the foot of the statue, it reads, “what would the world be like if women were safe.”
