Oakland Attacks Put Women on Alert Around Lake Merritt

Two women were attacked on Sunday and now police are warning everyone to be on alert.

People who live, work or play near Lake Merritt in Oakland are being warned of two recent attacks.

Police say two women were robbed and sexually assaulted Sunday evening.  The attacks happened two hours apart but police say they think the same man is responsible.

Police released a sketch of the suspect Tuesday.

Oakland police say the crimes had several similarities, among them that both women were attacked while heading home. One woman was getting out of her car when she was approached.

Police have not identified a suspect.

One woman who was walking her dog around the lake Tuesday morning said she had not heard of the attacks.  She said she always carries mace just in case.
