Oakland City Workers Accused of Beating Man

Oakland officials and police are investigating a resident's complaint that a city worker severely beat him.

Thirty-six-year-old Joshua Daniels suffered a black eye and broken eye socket, requiring 10 stitches, after a city worker assaulted him, beating him unconscious, according to the Chronicle.

Daniels says the confrontation happened early Sunday morning outside city hall at Frank Ogawa Plaza after he spit his gum into a trash bin two workers were using.

Daniels started capturing the moment on his cell phone. That's when one of the men started punching him.

Daniels says he passed out and about an hour later woke up in a pool of blood on the floor of his apartment. He says he doesn't know how he got there and his cell phone is missing.

The city's public works agency says it has launched an internal probe and it takes these accusations very seriously.
