Oakland Home Deck Collapse Injures 9

Nearly a dozen people are recovering Sunday night after a deck collapsed in the back of an Oakland home. It happened on Outlook Avenue in East Oakland. The deck buckled with no warning or even a sound. NBC Bay Area’s Christie Smith reports from Oakland.

Nine people were hurt during a family gathering in Oakland when a deck collapsed.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Sunday that three of the victims were injured critically and were taken to Oakland hospitals after the home deck collapsed on the 7800 block of Outlook Avenue about 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The Oakland Fire Department said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. Some of the critically injured appeared to have suffered broken legs, officials said.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation. Oakland building inspectors have been called to the scene.
