Oakland Nonprofit Praised By White House

Michele Clark says she was flattered to be singled out by the White House for being innovative and cutting edge. Still, she feels the real success of her organization, Youth Employment Partnership, is something old-fashioned: getting young people jobs.

When Michele Clark took over as executive director of Oakland's Youth Employment Partnership, she figured she'd be in the job for two years. Three years tops.

Twenty-four years later, Clark is still there.

She says she has stuck with it because providing jobs and job training to the youth of Oakland has proven to be incredibly rewarding.

It is something new she tried, though, that caught the attention of the White House.
