Police: Belmont Tenant Used Bear Spray on Landlord

Belmont police have arrested a tenant who allegedly assaulted his landlord with bear spray.

Capt. Patrick Halleran said that police took Steven Thomas Plummer, 55, into custody on May 23 about 6 p.m. where he lived at an  apartment complex in the 2300 block of Carlmont Drive.

When officers got there, they said that Plummer had used a type of pepper spray used to repel wild animals, like bears, on his property manager. Police said Plummer was upset about the noise the manager and a worker were making while doing maintenance to an apartment. During the argument, police said Plummer struck the manager in the face and sprayed him with pepper spray.

Plummer was booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on charges of assault and battery and misuse and possession of tear gas.

The manager of the property suffered minor injuries.
