Interstate Highway 880 was temporarliy closed in both directions at Mowry Avenue in Fremont late Friday while police searched for an armed and dangerous suspect. Kimberly Tere reports.
All lanes of Interstate Highway 880 have reopened in Fremont after a shutdown triggered by a police search for a suspect in a violent crime.
Fremont police and the California Highway Patrol closed the freeway ¼ mile south and ¼ mile north of Mowry Avenue in both directions shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday.
The suspect, who was thought to be hiding in bushes along the freeway, is described as a black male adult, 20 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 155 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
Anyone who believes they have seen the suspect should call 911 immediately and not approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous.
