An elderly woman who walked away from her apartment in downtown Walnut Creek on Friday afternoon was located late Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A person called police Sunday night stating that a person matching Valentina Matyushina's description had been spotted in the Lakewood Circle area of Walnut Creek. Responding officers found the woman at 10:30 p.m., authorities said.

The 74-year-old woman went missing around 2:40 p.m. Friday, and was considered to be at-risk due to dementia and other health problems. She does not speak English, according to police, and can only communicate in Russian.

Matyushina was described as a Caucasian woman with gray/brown hair and blue eyes. She is 4 feet 11 inches tall and roughly 180 pounds, police said.

She was last seen wearing a gray-colored long sleeve shirt, brown slippers and a pair of Adidas-style pants which were darkly colored with white lines down the side of the leg. Police said she was also carrying a red fleece jacket and a floral print robe.

Police said Matyushina, though found safe, was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Search-and-rescue teams from five counties contributed to finding Matyushina, authorities said. [[314494201, C]]
