Sex Ed Workshops For Teens Planned For Bi-National Health Week

Workshops planned for today and tomorrow

Two sex education workshops for teenagers will be held today and  tomorrow as part of Santa Clara County's fourth annual Bi-National Health  Week.
"We strongly encourage all teens to come and participate, and to  get information on a very important subject so they can make educated and  healthy decisions in their lives," said Leticia Gonzalez, member of the  steering committee for the health week.
The first workshop will be held at MACSA El Portal Leadership  Academy in Gilroy from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today, and will be broken into  four segments.
The topics are birth control methods, sexually transmitted  diseases and prevention, health and unhealthy relationships, and anatomy.
Wednesday's workshop, which will also cover birth control methods  and sexually transmitted diseases, will be held at Alum Rock Library in San  Jose.
The first 40 teens to arrive at today's workshop, and the first 50  to arrive Wednesday, will receive a $10 gift card.
Gonzalez said each workshop will include a raffle in which an MP3  player will be given away.
The presentations will be conducted in English and presented by  representatives of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. Spanish-language  translations are available if needed, Gonzalez said.
Bi-National Health Week, which runs from Oct. 3 through Oct. 17,  strives to reach more than 10,000 Hispanic workers and their families through  a series of health educational workshops, medical screenings, insurance  referrals and treatment.
It is a partnership between Santa Clara County, the Mexican  Consulate General in San Jose, and community and health organizations.
Today's workshop will be held at MACSA El Portal Leadership  Academy, 277 IOOF Ave., in Gilroy.
