SFO Incidents Prompt Close-Call Legislation

Recent close calls at San Francisco International Airport have reportedly prompted one lawmaker to launch new legislation. The Mercury News reports East Bay Congressman Mark Desaulneir is proposing legislation to promptly preserve cockpit voice recorders. It comes in the wake of two recent incidents involving Air Canada planes. In one case, a plane almost landed on a crowded taxiway. In another case, pilots did not hear controllers telling them to go around. Because the cockpit voice recorders were not removed those conversations have now been lost. The NTSB says those proposed rule changes are not necessary
