In an effort to escape with a clean shoplifting getaway, a pair of thieves set fire to a clothing rack at an East Bay Target.
The burglary and arson incident began Thursday in Fremont's Pacific Commons Shopping Center when a woman shoveled items into a suitcase. A male accomplice was acting as a lookout before the pair lit a clothing rack on fire while they made an escape.
The duo fled the scene as Target employees investigated the blaze, police said.
A description of the suspects was not yet available at the time.
