Student Overcomes Homelessness to Graduate From Cal State East Bay

Earning a college degree can be challenging under ordinary circumstances. Doing it without a place to live sounds nearly impossible. Don’t tell that to 55-year-old Brenda Brown. She graduated from Cal State East Bay Saturday with a degree in communication despite struggling to find a place to live as well as hunkering down in her car during her time in school. “It’s a dream realized,” Brown said. “It just didn’t come about the way I thought that it would.” With a degree in hand, Brown hopes to now nail down a job, and she also has thoughts about grad school.
