Sunnyvale Charter School Set to Re-Open After Authorities Complete Investigation

A Sunnyvale charter school is set to re-open Wednesday morning. The Santa Clara County Office of Education temporarily shut down the school on Monday to complete investigation of school employees. Kris Sanchez reports.

It’s back to school on Wednesday for teachers and students at a Sunnyvale charter school where a teacher’s aid is accused of inappropriately touching a student.

The Santa Clara County Office of Education temporarily shut down Spark Charter School on Monday after learning it had not completed fingerprinting and background checks on employees.

According to the school board, three staff members, including 18-year old Jonathan Chow, will not return as classes resume Wednesday. The board did not say why they were fired.

In a statement, the school’s superintendent blamed California Department of Justice for not issuing the state identification number the school needed to conduct the background checks.
