Suspected Carjacker Still on Loose

Day long search came up empty.

A man wanted for two South Bay carjackings who prompted a  shelter-in-place order in a San Jose neighborhood on Tuesday remains at large  today, police said.

Jarek Brown, 31, was being sought in connection with a carjacking  that occurred in the city of Milpitas on Dec. 7.

On Tuesday morning at about 8:40 a.m., Milpitas police and a local  fugitive task force located Brown near Capitol Expressway and U.S. Highway  101 in San Jose, Milpitas police said.

Brown fled, leading officers on a chase before crashing the BMW he  was driving near Seven Trees Boulevard and Capitol Expressway, San Jose  police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

He ran into a nearby neighborhood after the crash, and police told  residents to shelter in place as they searched for him, Dwyer said.

While police were searching, Brown stole a Toyota Camry from the  garage of a home in the 200 block of El Cajon Drive and drove off, striking a  police motorcycle on his way out.

"That was the last we saw of him," Dwyer said this morning.

He said police are continuing to investigate the case.

Brown, a San Jose resident, is believed to be armed with a  handgun, Dwyer said.

No one was injured during the pursuit or search on Tuesday.

Brown is described as a white or Hispanic man about 5 foot 10  inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees Brown is advised to call 911. Anyone with  information about the case is asked to call Milpitas police at (408)  586-2400. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call (408) 586-2500 or send a  tip via the Milpitas Police Department's website at this link.
