A man wanted for two South Bay carjackings who prompted a shelter-in-place order in a San Jose neighborhood on Tuesday remains at large today, police said.
Jarek Brown, 31, was being sought in connection with a carjacking that occurred in the city of Milpitas on Dec. 7.
On Tuesday morning at about 8:40 a.m., Milpitas police and a local fugitive task force located Brown near Capitol Expressway and U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose, Milpitas police said.
Brown fled, leading officers on a chase before crashing the BMW he was driving near Seven Trees Boulevard and Capitol Expressway, San Jose police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.
He ran into a nearby neighborhood after the crash, and police told residents to shelter in place as they searched for him, Dwyer said.
While police were searching, Brown stole a Toyota Camry from the garage of a home in the 200 block of El Cajon Drive and drove off, striking a police motorcycle on his way out.
"That was the last we saw of him," Dwyer said this morning.

He said police are continuing to investigate the case.
Brown, a San Jose resident, is believed to be armed with a handgun, Dwyer said.
No one was injured during the pursuit or search on Tuesday.
Brown is described as a white or Hispanic man about 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
