Twitter: What People Are Saying About the Bay Bridge

The new eastern span of the Bay Bridge opened Monday night, and from the early comments on Twitter and photos shared on Instagram, many commuters were impressed with their new $6.4 billion views.

The bridge opened with much fanfare on Monday night, about seven hours ahead of schedule. The idea to rebuild the eastern span of the Bay Bridge stems from the 6.9 magnitude 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

The new span of the bridge, which is said to be seismically safer, took 11 years to construct.
