RV Catches Fire, Spreads to Brush South of Morgan Hill: Cal Fire

An recreational vehicle caught fire Sunday and spread to nearby vegetation and greenhouses in San Martin, just south of Morgan Hill, Cal Fire said.

The blaze sent black smoke billowing into the air starting at about 4:30 p.m. along Murphy Avenue, near San Martin Avenue. Murphy Avenue was closed as firefighters knocked down the blaze, Cal Fire said.

The black smoke originated from the greenhouses, according to fire officials. They said such buildings are very problematic because of the plastic sheeting and the vertical and horizontal nature of the structures.

Firefighting aircraft also battled the fire, along with several firefighting agencies, including South Santa Clara County Fire, Morgan Hill Fire, officials said.

The cause of the RV fire is unknown and under investigation.
