Forecast: Showers, Sun & More Rain Sunday

Very impressive rainfall totals even by January standards. Warm, moist air flowing in off the Pacific was channeled in by our Friday evening storm that dropped totals in the 4″-6″ range in the Santa Cruz mountains 2″-4″ in the North Bay and mostly .75″ to 1.50″ around the inner Bay. A slightly unstable airmass continues for Saturday, meaning periods of some sun mixed with showers at times. Showers should be most widespread near the coast, Santa Cruz mountains and the hills and valleys from Santa Clara county southward. More widespread mainly light rain is possible as early as late Saturday night into early Sunday with moderate rain and breezy conditions developing again by Sunday afternoon. Its still looking like rain chances for the 49ers NFC Championship game on Sunday with gametime temps in the low to mid 50s and winds in the 10-20 mph range. The computer models have been suggesting one more wave of heavier rain late Sunday night into Monday (possibly with some thunder as well) before things rapidly dry out by mid-afternoon Monday. High pressure seems to build back again over much of California sending us back to a drying pattern for most of the week – with only a minor chance for a few showers for the far North Bay on Tuesday. Enjoy your weekend and Go 49ers! – Rob Mayeda
