Videocast: Sun, Showers & Thunder Risk

Pretty impressive rain totals so far this weekend including as of 8am Sunday morning: San Francisco 1.39, Oakland 1.42, Vallejo 1.34, Palo Alto 1.08, Danville .94 and San Jose .71. Nearly 2.50+ inches fell in portions of the Santa Cruz mountains with more possible today. While the main rain band has pushed through, in addition to much more sunshine today, we’ll continue seeing a chance for a little more rain in the form of scattered showers moving through in a cool, unstable air mass over the Bay Area. Daytime heating providing warming below may help provide a boost to some stronger convective showers = a chance for some thunder today. So just how cool is the air out there cool enough for snow showers to near 3,000-3,500 feet at times with heavier showers and levels as low as 2,500 ft. in the North Bay. As always, the catch when air gets this cold, is that less moisture will be available for snowfall on the higher peaks, but expect to see some if skies clear enough for some viewing. Showers should decrease in coverage and intensity after sunset with things trending mainly dry heading into Monday morning. Enjoy your Sunday – Rob Mayeda
