Soaking Rain to Summer Sunshine in the 7Day

What an epic day for record breaking rainfall around the Bay Area with totals including: San Jose .56″, San Francisco .78″, Oakland 1.03″ and a few areas like San Rafael, Vallejo and Napa nearing 1″ of rain for June 28th! Pretty incredible. A moisture rich system slowed to nearly 10 mph as the cold front literally trudged through the Bay Area around midday – basically adding a couple more hours of rainfall than expected yielding totals in the .50 to 1″ range. We’ll still see a risk for some showers lingering into Wednesday – as some cooler air aloft and fairly moisture rich sun warmed air below brings a chance of mainly hilltop showers to the North, East and South Bay around midday. By Wednesday evening the showers will shut down as the sun sets and the atmosphere stabilizes again. Starting Thursday we’ll see some warming, followed by pronounced warming as high pressure throttles up over the Bay Area – bringing a huge warm up by the weekend. Highs will range from the 70s near the coast, 80s/90s around San Francisco and the inner bay and 90s to near 100 around San Jose and especially inland near the inland East Bay valleys by Sunday. What a weather rollercoaster! – Rob Mayeda
