Soggy/Snowy Saturday To Drier Sunday

Our week of Winter weather wrapped up with a snowy finish for many Bay Area hilltops near 1,500-2,000 feet on Saturday. Snow totals were impressive: Mt. Hamilton 6″, Mt. Diablo 4″-5″, Santa Cruz Mountains near 3,000 ft 6″. We’ll see most of the widespread showers winding down overnight – with some clearing we will likely have some patchy frost in the inland valleys and icy roads in the mountains/hills for early Sunday. While most of Sunday is expected to be dry – there’s a catch – instability showers may develop around midday over the local mountains (especially Napa County northward) otherwise Sunday is looking to be drier and a little bit warmer than Saturday – mainly upper 40s to mid 50s. Monday’s forecast is in flux – as a cut off low spins down the coast — its looking like the best chances for rain will be near the North Bay coast/and coastal range for Monday, though the trend has been to keep more of the rain offshore. We’ll stay cool and dry for the middle part of the week before round two of very low snow levels returns around Friday. Winter hasn’t lost its grip on the Bay Area yet! All of this of course is good news for the Sierra snowpack near 125% of average and even our local reservoirs benefitted from the 2″-4″ of rain that fell during the past week in total. Enjoy your Sunday! – Rob Mayeda
