Summer Sun Set To Return

A slow moving area of low pressure has finally moved east of the Sierra allowing high pressure to begin building in for the rest of the week. Thursday will start off with some low clouds and probably some misty skies in a few spots for the morning with clearing and warming during the day with inland temps hitting the 70s-80s. By Friday, temps will climb even more as high pressure strengthens and compresses down the marine layer – confining cooling mainly to the immediate coastline. Highs for the weekend should range from the 70s near the beaches, 80s-90s from San Francisco over to the East Bay with inland valleys hitting the mid 90s to near 100 by Sunday/Monday. This means we may have some Spare the Air alerts early next week as winds weaken and high pressure drops down like a lid over the bay. Modest cooling should resume midway through next week as the sea breeze slowly strengthens again. One item to watch – remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Arlene that will be drifting across Mexico – may get pulled up/around a ridge of high pressure to our southeast. Some of those clouds and mid-level moisture may begin streaming in to our south early next week – possibly a fire danger issue for dry lighting esp. across the mountains and deserts of Southern California. In the meantime, enjoy the return to more Summer-like weather – Rob Mayeda
