Video Forecast: From Windy to Warming

A cool trough will slowly exit the area for Monday, with highs rebounding slightly into the mid 60s to near 70 inland. There will be enough moisture, instability over the hills to warrant a slight risk for afternoon showers especially areas south of Los Gatos and perhaps over the Diablo range as well. Tuesday through Thursday look really quite nice with inland highs climbing into the mid 70s again in a midweek warm up pattern similar to last week, though not as hot. Next weekend looks pretty interesting. Right now the long-range models are agreeing that a deep, cold low with a moisture tap out of the subtropics will drift into Central California starting next Saturday. Upper level winds also look favorable to providing a little extra energy to this system in terms of thunderstorm potential as well. Stronger sun angles in early May plus this type of cold pool of air and active upper level wind support can be a recipe for wild weather… this is still many days out and subject to change, but factor it into next weekend’s plans. We could be seeing some rather dramatic changes for next weekend. In the meantime, enjoy the slow/mild warm up for most of the work week! – Rob Mayeda
