Video Forecast: Some Warming Ahead

We’re finally starting to see some ‘typical’ Summer weather around the Bay Area with 60s/70s near the beaches and bay and 80s to even some near 90 degree temps in our inland valleys. With the marine layer near 900-1,200 feet this trend should continue to start the work week. Some computer models are suggesting the marine layer may compress down further around midweek, if this is the case we’ll see more 90s popping up inland, but a renewed trough of low pressure approaching by the end of the week will promote a stronger push of onshore winds and likely send temperatures down again approaching next week. The relatively mild Summer has yielded some benefits with respect to air quality. So far we’ve had only 2 Spare the Air days this Summer compared to 10 last year and 14 the year before. You’d have to go back to 2007 to find a year with similar good/moderate air quality. We’ll see what the rest of August/September holds but as long as that sea breeze and fairly persistent marine layer remain – chances are we’ll continue breathing a little easier around the bay. Enjoy your week! – Rob Mayeda
