Videocast: “Gold Rush” of Sunshine (For Now)

Despite a very cold start to the morning, we will manage one more nice day of mild afternoon temps with highs mostly hitting the 60s around the Bay Area. Though do expect some high clouds drifting in later on as two systems sweep by (one just to our south and another dropping in from the north) for the afternoon. Sunday will see a noticeable drop in daytime temps as much cooler air blasts down from the north as a weather system tosses a few showers north of us and kicks up the winds into the 10-25 mph. Highs on Sunday will likely stay in the mid 50s and if we get enough clearing and light winds into Monday morning – those AM temps could get really very chilly. A pattern change to rain is due later in the week – right now the computer models are suggesting the jet stream will likely be a little too far to the north to bring much rain south of the Golden Gate on Wednesday, but that should change Thursday and Friday as the jet stream drops southward over Northern California. We should see some decent rain and snow totals with this incoming precipitation coming from a good feed of moisture over the Pacific (as opposed to the somewhat drier, chillier Sunday weather system). Hopefully we can manage a recovery to those rain and snowfall deficits next weekend. But for now – enjoy the Gold Rush of sunshine and go NINERS! – Rob Mayeda
