Videocast: Frosty Morning, Windy Night Ahead

Clear skies coupled with very cool, dry air helped drop our morning temperatures below freezing in our inland valleys this morning. Patchy frost will fade by mid-morning with slow warming into the afternoon on schedule for the rest of the day. Given the time of year, the sun angle is fairly low in the sky meaning even with mostly clear skies, such a chilly start will mean today’s highs will likely hit the upper 50s to low 60s for most places. After a pleasant day, we’ll again have to watch for winds throttling up tonight for the hills of the North and East Bay. Another challenging part of the forecast will be our wind-protected inland valleys where we will likely see another round of some 30s and patchy frost especially around the South Bay. Gusty winds for our Bay Area hill tops will be the story for Monday before the winds ease for another chilly night. Unfortunately the rest of the week and the extended forecast still looks dry. With most of the Bay Area now at 50%-75% of average for rainfall totals, we really could use more of it. The long range forecast models still insist on keeping things dry through the middle of the month.Enjoy your Sunday and go Niners & Raiders! – Rob Mayeda
