Videocast: Sun and Showers with Thunder Possible

Overnight: Widespread light to moderate rain should ease off in coverage and intensity toward daybreak. However many Bay Area roads will be slippery as rain from 6pm-11pm was in the .10”-.33” range. Wednesday – Less widespread rain, trending to scattered showers: The computer models are a little all over the place with Wednesday’s weather. With colder air sweeping in – we should see two things – one more sunshine as colder air hold less moisture but colder air will limit temps from warming too much even with sunny breaks – looking for upper 50s to low 60s for highs. While moisture will be limited, instability will ratchet up around midday – esp the hills of the North/East Bay (bit of a forecast change from earlier) around 12p-6p as max heating of the day will give a boost to moisture rising through the chilly air = pop up showers, and stronger convective showers will have a chance at dropping hail with freezing levels near 4K feet. Stronger thunder is possible in areas where some wind shear is expected – mainly east of us – into the Redding/Sacramento/San Joaquin regions. However – we’ll want to watch the winds in Napa, Solano, Contra Costa counties – if they are S/SE during the day then that might get some storms to rotate, which could trigger a brief stronger or severe storm. That said – models are really backing off on available moisture – or fuel for these things, so we’ll have to see, best odds are still east of the Bay Area. Thursday – Friday Storm # 2: More rain will fill in again esp. by afternoon with a pretty good blast of rain due in from 10pm-5am into Friday morning. Decent cold front will probably crank up the winds as well -> with the trend turning a little drier now earlier on Friday. With any luck showers will be decreasing Friday afternoon for the Giants home opener. Weekend: Looking stellar – with temps soaring to the low 70s by Sunday and beyond for a change.
