Videocast: Aurora Watch?, Frosty Morning Ahead

Dry air and mainly clear skies overnight should allow temperatures in wind-protected inland valley areas to dip into the low 30s overnight and possibly lower in spots. A freeze warning is up for inland North Bay valleys and areas in the Santa Clara valley southward through early tomorrow morning. Elsewhere closer to the bay, a light sea breeze should keep enough moisture in the air to prevent temps from dipping down too far. These clear conditions will mean we will have good viewing of any possibly aurora borealis displays should they show up this far south. With a massive X5-flare hitting the upper atmosphere overnight, it is possible some auroras may show as far south as Washington state here on the West Coast, and on occasion they do sometimes appear on the far northern horizon. We’ll see if we see anything, but at least the weather is cooperating!Speaking of the weather, its looking a little warmer at least for the next couple of afternoons with Friday being the warmest then trending cooler with more clouds for the weekend. A fairly weak system looks to toss some showers our way on Sunday, mainly north of San Francisco. Better chances for rain should arrive as stronger system impact the upper West Coast early next week.Enjoy your Thursday! – Rob Mayeda
