Videocast: Saturday Night Rain, Sunday Showers

The rain has finally arrived for the entire Bay Area for a change. Upper level winds running parallel to the frontal boundary effectively put the brakes on the west to east movement of our weather system. Obviously now things have changed with the stronger portion of the system to set to swing through Southern California, our rain line is moving again and should keep the rain going from the evening until the early morning on Sunday. Expect periods of mostly moderate rain with some brief downpours at times (especially near the coastal and North Bay mountains) before we begin seeing things change over to scattered showers by midday on Sunday. As cooler air sweeps in we may see risk for some isolated thunder especially for areas near the coast for the afternoon. Snow levels will also dip down to near 3,500 ft which should mean places like Mt. Hamilton will see a little more snow to finish the weekend. Showers should decrease in coverage and intensity by early evening with things drying out into Monday. – Rob Mayeda
