Videocast: Thunderstorms, Hail And Gusty Wind

A strong storm system bringing a rare opportunity for strong *overnight* thunderstorms across the Bay Area. Look for periods of rain at times mixed with occasional thunderstorms which will contain briefly gusty winds, small hail and dangerous lightning. As the saying goes, “when thunder roars, stay indoors”. And watch the overnight light show from the safety of your home. A very strong upper level jet stream is screaming into the Central Coast just to our south providing a strong mechanism for lift in the atmosphere, enhanced by smaller scale features that should increase vertical motion into the early morning hours. By mid-late morning, the showers should decreasing in coverage, though we’ll continue the threat for showers and isolated thunderstorms into the afternoon – especially for the inland hills of the North, East and South Bay into the early evening. Thankfully, we’ll catch a break with drying and eventually warming conditions for the weekend. Stay tuned for updates on any severe weather alerts here on NBCBayArea and NBCBayArea.com – Rob Mayeda
