Warm Inland With Cooling Changes Ahead

The sea breeze kicked in a little earlier on Sunday coupled with a marine layer now about 1,500 feet thick. This led to cooling for most of the Bay Area but only minor and largely unnoticeable cooling inland near the Tri-Valley where temps dropped from near 100 degrees Saturday to about 94-97 degrees on Sunday. Does that feel cooler to you? To me not so much, and you probably didn’t notice much change either other than the winds picking up earlier in the afternoon. We also have some mid-level moisture as vertical motion and some instability over the region as an upper low tracks over Central California. This placement should keep most of the deeper moisture to the east of us which is helping to fire up big thunderstorms over the Sierra crest into Monday.Monday should see a similar spread of temperatures with a tad bit more cooling inland. Things will turn much cooler by midweek as the marine layer should vault up to near 2-3,000 feet which will easily cool down even our most inland valley locations. Temps should climb some again moving into next weekend. Enjoy your Monday! – Rob Mayeda
