Warmer Week Ahead & Thunder Threat?

Mostly mild days are expected at least to start the work week before we see the influence of high pressure building closer to us out of the desert southwest that will bring warmer temperatures and possibly a chance for some thunder in the nearby mountains. We’re expecting 90s to return for our inland valleys by midweek with temps around the coast/bay likely holding on to the 60s and 70s as the marine layer will stick around, although it will be compressed down to the coastal areas. This will allow inland valleys to warm into the 80s and 90s approaching next weekend. The item to watch in this pattern change is the combination of drier air below and mid-level moisture moving in from our south/southeast that can sometimes be a trigger for some fire danger due to lightning sparked fires. As of now – it appears the upper level wind pattern should keep most of this south of Monterey and east of Livermore, however this is subject to change on just how far to the west high pressure continues building and if the remnant low from former Tropical Storm Dora will provide a little extra energy to that extra moisture as it drifts northward and inland across Central California. Enjoy your week – Rob Mayeda
