Frozen Helmet May Help Cancer Patients Keep Hair

Cancer patients in Europe and Canada have been using cold caps to help prevent hair loss during chemotherapy treatments. The Penguin Cold Caps numbs the scalp during chemotherapy and makes it harder for cancer-fighting drugs to damage hair follicles. Patients in the U.S. are permitted to bring their own cold caps to their chemotherapy sessions, but the devices have not been approved by the FDA. Angie Crouch reports from Santa Monica for NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2013.
