Free Kits Can Test Pool Water for Safe, Bacteria-Fighting Chlorine Levels

A free test kit checks chlorine levels in swimming pools to ensure there is enough of the chemical to kill bacteria. NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013.

As the weather heats up and community swimming pools open, health officials are trying to give swimmers the tools they need to protect themselves from dirty pools.

The Water Quality and Health Council is giving out free test strips that can quickly tell prospective swimmers whether there's enough chlorine in the water to kill harmful bacteria.
