Miami-Dade, Broward Schools Receive Threats: Officials

Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Broward County Public Schools confirmed they received threats Wednesday night.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Broward County Public Schools confirmed they received threats Wednesday night, which were similar to the ones recently in Los Angeles and New York.

Officials told NBC 6 they do not believe either are credible threats, however, they are working with local, state and federal law enforcement.

Officials encouraged parents to still send their kids to school on Thursday, and said there will be additional resources on staff.

"Notwithstanding this less than credible threat, it is the district’s responsibility to share this information with the community," Miami-Dade School officials said in a statement. "In an abundance of caution, additional resources have been deployed to schools. A normal school day is expected on Thursday, Dec. 17 and parents are encouraged to send their children to their regularly scheduled classes."

Broward School officials said they will also operate on a normal schedule Thursday.

"We are sharing this information with our community to ensure everyone is aware of this situation. In an abundance of caution, additional resources have been deployed to our schools and throughout our community," Broward Schools said in a statement. "Parents/guardians are encouraged to send their children to their regularly scheduled classes and activities."

Miami-Dade School officials believe the threat came from the same account that turned out to be a hoax in Los Angeles. The threat was made through emails sent to school board members, officials said.

Threats were also received by school districts in Houston and Dallas Wednesday night.
