Boy Steals Concrete Mixer for High-Speed Joyride: Deputies

Minnesota sheriff's deputies said a boy was driving the truck up to 70 mph

An 11-year-old allegedly stole a cement truck and led police on a high-speed chase through neighborhoods in Dodge Center, Minnesota, reaching speeds of up to 70 mph in a chase that was captured on bystanders’ cell phone cameras.

A cement truck joyride turned into a high-speed pursuit after a Minnesota boy stole the concrete mixer near the town of Kasson, authorities say.

The boy took the truck about 3 p.m. Sunday from a contractor who had left the keys in the vehicle, according to a news release from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities tried to pull over the truck for speeding, but the truck kept going, even after deputies damaged its tire. Deputies say the truck was going 65-70 mph during the pursuit.

Once the truck was stopped, the boy attempted to run from the police, deputies said, but was arrested. He awaits charges in a juvenile facility.

The chase ended after one hour, according to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office. Local residents told NBC affiliate KTTC the boy is 11 years old.

"Everybody was out with their cameras," Dodge Center resident Troy Flatness told KTTC. "It was like a parade and I had no idea what was going on."
