Children Evacuated From Bus Stalled on SoCal Freeway

Firefighters extinguished a small fire on the bus, which stopped on a busy 5 Freeway

About 25 children were evacuated from a bus after a small fire that began Wednesday morning as they traveled on a busy San Fernando Valley freeway.

Firefighters responded to the 5 Freeway near the 170 Freeway interchange in Pacoima after a report of smoke aboard the bus. The small fire was extinguished within minutes after firefighters arrived.

Students were evacuated and lined up against a freeway wall after authorities temporarily stopped traffic. Cones were placed between the children and freeway lanes, and several patrol vehicles were used to alert drivers.

No injuries involving the children were reported. Aerial video showed firefighter-paramedics treating the driver of another vehicle, which might have been involved in a nearby crash.

Another bus arrived to transport the children at about 9:30 a.m.
