A sheriff's deputy was shot and killed while responding to a domestic-violence call in Nevada, officials said Saturday, according to NBC News.
The Carson City Sheriff's Department said officers dispatched to a home at around 2:18 a.m. on Saturday found a female with "physical injury."
"Within minutes, the male suspect came out of the house and opened fire on the officers, killing one," it said in a statement. Police said that after additional units arrived on the scene, three children and an adult were evacuated from the home.
The suspect also died at the scene; it was not immediately clear how.
The slain deputy's name has not been released.
