Direct Democracy: San Francisco Voters Talk About the Tough Job of Voting on California Ballot Propositions

California’s current form of direct democracy dates back more than a century, but came into its own with the landmark property tax measure known as Prop 13 in 1978. Now routinely asked to vote on questions about taxes, criminal justice and social services, San Francisco voters say they don’t mind the homework — and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
