Report: Steve Kerr Will Be Assistant to Gregg Popovich With USA Basketball

Steve Kerr will reportedly head to China in 2019 and Japan in 2020.

The Warriors' head coach will serve as an assistant with USA Basketball at the 2019 FIBA World Cup and 2020 Olympics, sources told Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Pacers head coach Nate McMillan and Villanova's Jay Wright will serve as the other assistants to head coach Gregg Popovich.

The FIBA World Cup is slated for Aug. 31 through Sept. 15, while the Olympics begin on July 24 and end on Aug. 9.

Kerr committing to the role is more proof that he has in fact experienced significant improvement on the health front.

"Man, what a long haul," Kerr explained to The Athletic's Tim Kawakami last week. "I work every day -- I do a lot of stuff to make sure I'm staying on the improving path. Getting old -- it sucks (laughter).

"The worst is behind me ... when I had to sit out in the playoffs, that was a brutally difficult time and I wasn't sure what was gonna happen. I think all of that is behind me and I'm looking at much better days."

Kerr earned a gold medal at the 1986 FIBA World Cup, and it's probably safe to assume some more gold hardware will be coming his way in the next two years...
