The Stanford women's soccer team defeated North Carolina on penalty kicks Sunday night to capture the national championship at Avaya Stadium in San Jose.
The Cardinal won the Women's College Cup for the third time since 2011, outlasting the Tar Heels 5-4 in penalty kicks after the two teams finished regulation time in a scoreless tie.
Kiki Pickett scored the deciding goal in the shootout to lock up the title.
