Tom Brady Mentor, Tom Martinez Dies

Coach dies waiting for kidney transplant.

A Texas man has the rare distinction of having witnessed two disasters in just a few days — finishing the Boston Marathon just moments before a bomb exploded at the finish line on Monday, and then on Wednesday watching a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, explode. “I was just like, ‘I can’t believe this!”‘ Joe Berti said. He had never witnessed an explosion before Monday, he said. But he said he feels far from unlucky, despite his bad timing. He, his wife and his running group all left the marathon unscathed. “Not only do I not feel unlucky, but I feel blessed that my wife could be 10 yards from the explosion and not have a scratch,” he told the Associated Press. Two days later, while Berti was heading home to Austin, Texas, after a meeting in Dallas, he saw — and felt — the massive explosion near Waco when his car shook and a fireball lit up the sky over the interstate.
